The process of a counseling session

In individual setting, one client and one mental health counselor or psychologist talk together in a confortable room. (for uni- and corp- programs on-location e.g.: in an office room, meeting room, medical examination room.) The effectiveness of therapy depends on the client's active participation. It requires time, effort and regularity! Short-term therapy usually begins with the identification of issues and problems (during first session.) It is followed by the establishment of goals and objectives by the client. The work may involve regular meetings at a set time, same location for a period of time. In most cases the length of the counseling/coaching process will be agreed between the client(s) and the counselor. What happens during a session is usually considered confidential to the people in that session.

Advisory counseling role:

Individal (1:1) counseling could be a strict advisory task in certain times. In those cases when the client needs help to address a particular situation, behavior (for examle: how to approach my teenage son who is having alcohol problems) when it is possible (one or two meetings with the MH counselor) a short-term-counseling format may be the most suitable solution.
